“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.”

— Cynthia Occelli

Services Offered

Individual Counselling

Support that caters to you and your personal goals. During these sessions you may want to explore a greater understanding of yourself and learn effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. Individual therapy can help with improving your mood, coping with a crisis, managing stress or workplace issues, exploring parts of your identity or assist in deepening your insight and awareness about yourself so you can achieve your personal goals.

Trans & Gender-Affirming Care

Not everyone going through gender transition or exploration needs counselling, and I believe that counselling can be beneficial for anyone anytime. I am here to support, process, and hold space for whatever is coming up for folks throughout their gender transition, and to support access to trans-affirming medical care.

I follow an informed consent model for accessing gender affirming treatment. I am a qualified provider of surgical assessments for those seeking Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care funding approval for gender affirming transition-related surgeries. I follow the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care version 8 (SoC8) when conducting a readiness assessment. I can also assist you with your primary care provider in accessing hormones. To write a letter for gender affirming surgery or for OHIP-funded surgery, I will require that we meet for a minimum of 2-5 sessions before I am able to ethically and responsibly provide you with this documentation.

Support for parents & guardians
of trans & gender-diverse children

I offer on-going or short-term support to parents, caregivers and other significant adults in the lives of trans and gender-diverse (TGD) children and youth. This can include working on ways that you can advocate for your child within social, familial and education settings; support navigating the health care system; and validating your experience as a parent of a TGD young person. I am here to support you, while you support your young person, as they learn and grow into their authentic self.

Deep Roots Counselling is situated in Toronto, Ontario, lands that for millennia have been occupied by many First Nations including, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.  Today it is home to many diverse Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people.
Toronto is covered by Treaty 13, the Toronto Purchase and the Williams Treaty.

At Deep Roots Counselling I believe that it is crucial to not only acknowledge First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people for their care of this land, and teachings about the earth and our connection to it, but also to actively and intentionally honor those teachings through our relationships today and every day hereafter.
We commit to moving forward in the spirit of partnership, collaboration, and reconciliation, as we learn together and contemplate the possibilities that lie ahead.
